What’s Your Weirdest Habit? Here Are 4 of My Weird Ones!

We all have habits – good, bad, ugly, and even weird.

I’m Airing My Weirdest Habits

Yes, you can laugh when you read some of my weird habits and it’s all good. But don’t laugh too hard as I know you have some as well! :-)

Sooooo….

Weird Habit #1 – Biting My Jaw

When I’m thinking deeply about something or am anxious, I bite the inside of my jaws. I blame my Mama for this one because when I was young sitting in the back seat of our car, I would see her doing it – just a biting and driving. It’s been a wrap for me ever since.

Now, when we catch each other doing it, we hit the other and say, “Stop It!”, knowing full well we can’t stop because we’ve already started. (Once you start, you can’t leave the jaw “unsmooth”…so you gotta keep biting strategically to get it back smooth…please, don’t ask…LOL)

This is me looking crazy biting my jaw! LOL

Weird Habit #2 – Changing Lanes Without Hitting the Reflectors

If no one else is around or close to me on the highway, I see if I can change lanes seamlessly, without jerking and without hitting the reflectors. I make it a game! Yes, it’s a challenge. If I successfully do it 3 times in a row, game won! If not, I have to start over.

Note: no one is hurt during the game, except maybe some roadkill…

Weird Habit #3 – “Flap Over” Toilet Paper Folder

I previously mentioned another habit, weird or wrong – I can’t call it, where I turn other people’s toilet paper “over” so the flap is in the front. I remember a time when one of my buddies couldn’t figure out who was doing it at his house until I finally told him. Hilarious!!

Besides, how would hotels make the cute toilet paper origami if they weren’t B-siders (see below)???

Are you an A or B toilet paper folder?? I’m B-side all the way baby!! :-)

Weird Habit #4 – Pour Water Like a Pro

I don’t know when this started but I think it was when I bought a Brita water pitcher. I like how the water comes out of the spout so I have fun with it. So I do little different tricks when pouring the water, like moving the cup up and down when I pour or pour the water from a high vantage point. It’s such a habit now I don’t even know I’m doing it anymore unless someone is watching and ask what I’m doing!

Okay, so maybe I don’t go as far as the guy in the above photo but I’m more like this:

Your turn…

Okay, so I’ve aired my silly, little weirdest habits. What about you? I know I’m not alone. Share below!

  • Hey Kesha!
Are you ready?!! Wait for it… wait for it… here it goes! I love to play with ears. There I said it. I know exactly where I got it from. My mother used to grab mine all the time. It didn’t matter where… supermarket, sitting on the couch, riding in the car, it serious did not matter. And she had no respect of person. She even grabbed my partner’s ear once…”uh uh sweety, those are mine.” Smack! :D

  • Great question Kesha. Of my many weird habits, I always turn off the radio before switching lanes on the highway. I won’t step on sidewalk cracks (cuz hey, step on a crack and break your mother’s back). I feel it’s rude not to start conversations with strange animals although they find me scary. And my husband’s least favorite: mix slightly cooked egg yolks with grape jelly till the mix is putrid green and use dip with toast. And when I’m alone, I enjoy chewing on slightly melted ice cubes.

    • Susan, I would love to be riding with you when you change lanes just to see that one in action!

We used to play the “don’t step on a crack game” all the time when we were kids and even now when I walk on the “small squared/huge cracks” sidewalk downtown with heels on, I do it (but more because I don’t want my heel to get caught in the crack – so I make a game out of it and try to walk normal without lifting my leg higher than normal or walking funny)!

LOL – keep enjoying your weird habits as I know I will! Thanks for sharing yours Susan!

      • Oh you’re too funny — trying to walk normal — you can ride w/me anytie if I can walk w/you downtown. How ’bout this — broke my little toe but continue wearing heels. I’d jog in heels if I ever jogged. Someday you’ll see a very old lady w/walker wearing 5-inch heels. Be sure to say hey Suz!

  • Girl, it’s great to find another jaw biter! I thought I was the only person that did it, as I’ve never heard anyone else admit to it. A lot of times the jaw biting catches me off guard, but I oddly am at peace while doing it.

I have a lot of weird habits…I’ll keep it brief here. :-)

    Here goes…

    1. Sucking spit through my teeth to make a “tsst” noise. When I get really excited (or really nervous), I pick up the speed. I don’t know if anyone has ever peeped me doing it in public…
    2. Putting on a STUPID amount of deodorant. I think I’m afraid of being funky. I think this is a good habit to have. I don’t count each roll of deodorant because there would be too many.
    3. I mix my Popeyes Red Beans and Rice with my Buttermilk Biscuit…is that weird? No one else seems to relate.
    4. I like to flatten my nose. As if my nose isn’t already flat enough, I like to push it down even more with my fingers.
    5. I like picking eye boogers out of my eyes, my hubby’s eyes, my dog’s eyes. I don’t have any kids or I’d probably do the same thing to them. Haven’t tried this on a stranger…that may be dangerous… :-)
Elise Connors recently posted..Liability Insurance & Accountability in FreelancingMy Profile

    • I love it, Elise, that you shared your weirdness with us here!! So, ummm, yes…please don’t go picking eye boogers from strangers’ eyes…you might get smacked (like Deeone’s smacks) LOL

As far as mixing food, I can’t think it’s weird because I’ll mix any type of pasta with cornbread. Cornbread makes any pasta (mac and cheese, fettucini, spaghetti, rice, anything really) better! So I can relate :-)

And here I thought I was the only jaw biter too so I guess we can start a club – it only takes 2 to start right?! LOL

    • Elise, that’s some crazy stuff. LMAO — TYVM — needed that laugh. I’m flattening my nose now, good times.

Please post again when you try #5 on a stranger, ha!

  • I totally bite my jaw too. I also push my lips to one side when I’m really thinking hard. It’s very very odd.

  • I’m a toilet paper on the B side kind of person too! LOL http://itsoktobeweird.com/2011/06/toilet-paper-over-or-under/

Love this post! Embrace your inner weirdie! :)

  • Here are mine:

    1. (as stated above), When I’m sleepy, I play with my (or someone else’s) ears.

    2. When I’m stressed out, I braid and un-braid sections of my hair over and over and over

    3. This is different from when I’m sleepy, in which I just play in my hair

    4. I eat slices of bread plain, and I fold the slice into a small square and smash it together before I eat it. (crazy, huh?!!)

Here’s a bonus one (and the weirdest yet)

Whenever I’m changing a newborn baby, I always press the clean diaper up to my nose and smell it before I put it on the baby!! O_O

  • You ARE an uncommon chick, aren’t you?! I still can’t think of any weird habits of mine. Clearly I am in denial and picture myself a vision of a well adjusted adult. Not likely. Enjoyed your post, as always.

    • Come on Tammy, it’s gotta be something you do that could be considered “weird” :-) Go ahead and think about it and come back. I’ll be watching you (or better yet I’m gonna interview your friends and fam and let them tell me!) ;-)

  • Umm, I’d pick my skin when I’m sunburnt and it’s peeling… Once I start, I can’t stop! Not good :)

  • That’s a great question…
I don’t like getting into an unmade bed
If I feel a cold coming on, I’ll clean the house before it arrives
I watch old episodes of Sex in the City when I work out

  • I am a jaw biter as well.
I don’t care which way the TP is turned. I’m nuetral.
I personify inanimate objects and give them names and backstories.
    Not sure what else? :-/

  • Ok here goes – I like to bite my tongue…Don’t no where I picked this up but it actually feels good…Ok I said it…..LOL

    • Cuz, now I’ve seen people do that too. Jamaal does it and he used to have part of his tongue hanging out his mouth if he was working on something LOL

I’m gonna be watching you now :-)

  • Oh, i bite my jaw too!! And I didn’t inherit that habit!
    How weird am i?? :P

    mustbeliberating.blogspot.com

  • hm…thts a very ..temptive habit i guess …its like ppl with this habit cant stop doing tht…obviously if u go on biting on and on…they may appear ugly….i dont know abt the medical help but i can suggest you to try n avoid as much as u can!

  • Loved reading all the posts. I feel so at home on the post! I am about as crazy as they come.

I have an addictive behavior so if I find something that I like I eat it everyday until I can’t stand it anymore.

I drink Pepsi only when I’m sad. Otherwise it’s disgusting.

I own lotion for specific body parts. Hand, feet, elbows, knees etc. They are not always labeled on the bottle for those specific body parts but I will only use that type on that part. At one point I had 14 different types of lotion on my vanity.

I am a bad passenger and on road trips no matter how far it is, I usually drive the entire way. Mostly because if something goes down I need to know if I can make it back by myself.

I’m going to stop, because i think I am starting to sound nuts even to myself.

    • So glad you like the posts on the blog deary and love that you share your feedback! *hugs*

I think you already know which food I have that same addictive behavior to (shhhhh… LOL)

Now, the Pepsi one is very interesting. Your taste buds must hide when you’re sad…ha!

Don’t stop…keep ‘em coming. I love to connect with others on our so-called, self-proclaimed ‘weirdness’ ;-)

      ~Kesha

      • My habit is so weird, I don’t even know how best to explain it, but I’ll try. When I’m sleeping, the top sheet has to be in the right position. If the part that goes at the top of the bed is misconstrued in anyway-on the side or God forbid at the bottom-I’m not going back to sleep until it’s fixed.

When I was a little girl, my mother always warned me against people putting their hands in my hair. And to this day, I do not like for people to touch my hair and I barely have any! But the fact that it is so short draws people to want to touch my head.

Last but no least, I used to be a self declared professional pimple popper and blackhead buster. I can’t believe I’m telling this. Lol.

  • LOL at the water pouring. I used to bite my inside jaw until I did it once ater going to the dentist and hadn’t quite realized how numb I was. When the novocane wore off I was in sooooooo much pain! That ended that bad habit!

A weird habit I have now though is picking my son’s nose with my pinky. I know I know. Nasty. But he has special needs and I hate seeing kids with crusty noses! At least I don’t clean his nose in public.

  • I have 2 weird habits. One is that I have to visually look at my clothes in order for me to feel right in them. Meaning, the night before work I must pull out my outfit and then think about it over night. If I don’t do this, then I feel very self conscious about what I’m wearing. It’s definitely a mental thing. It’s not only for work but for any instance. My friends know that it takes me a long time to get ready and this is part of the reason why. smh Secondly, when I go to sleep I have to have a cool spot on the bed. I will scoot and turn all night so that I can be comfortable. smh once again.

    • Now I feel you on the cool spot in the bed or a cool spot on the pillow! I don’t like to be hot when trying to sleep.

Speaking of bed/sleeping habits…I usually have a leg or foot out from under the covers because if my whole body is under the covers I get hot (even in the winter). :-)

Thanks so much for sharing Angela!!
