I liked this so much, I had to share it with you guys!

He Swept Me off My Feet shared this on Facebook (repost from Positive Vibes). By the way, these are two pages you should check out too!

Basically, these four agreements are the basis of a book entitled “The Four Agreements: A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom” (not an affiliate link) by Don Miguel Ruiz. It’s now on my reading list to check it out further. But in the meantime, it’s practical advice for all of us!

The Four Agreements – A Practical Guide to Personal Freedom

In case you can’t or don’t want to read the image, here is what it says:

1. Be Impeccable With Your Word

Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

2. Don’t Take Anything Personally

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

3. Don’t Make Assumptions

Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

4. Always Do Your Best

Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.

Over to you…

How do you achieve personal freedom? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below!

  • I love the Four Agreements, I have the book and I have it on my iPod – I think it’s time for another listen. Thanks for sharing this.

    • Wow, I guess I’m the only one late to the party. So many people are talking about this book and this is my first time hearing about it. My turn! 🙂

Thanks for sharing that you love it too…just fuels my motivation to get it sooner rather than later!

  • I read the 4 Agreements a couple years ago for work. All 4 principles are good ones I think. And maybe I need to go back and re-read since they are all about living very deliberately!

    • I’ve seen so many positive reviews about this book and can’t wait to dig in! I also re-read (nonfiction) books often; I think we get something new out of it with each read 🙂

      Thanks so much for commenting!

4 agreements, learned by the average kid by grade 2 or 3…..
1)If you can’t say something nice, don’t say anything
    2) Sticks and stones will break my bones but names will never hurt me.
    3) You make an ass out of u and me
4 Cub Scouts Do Your Best, Do Our Best

BTW 2 and 1 are in contradiction of each other. If you don’t take it personally it doesn’t matter if a person is impeccable with their word….
