7 years younger book

What if I told you that you could look and feel 7+ years younger without expensive products, liposuction, surgery, or time machines?

Well, there’s no fountain of youth but the good news is there are scientifically proven strategies and solutions that can make every woman look, feel, and act younger (and here’s the amazing part) in just 7 weeks.

Did you know that disease is NOT a natural part of aging? Just because we see a lot of our elders with diseases does not mean it is to be expected. The Baltimore Longitudinal Study on Aging has determined that disease is simply not what we should expect as we get older. Wisdom, yes; disease, no.

There are things we can do to help prevent a lot of the diseases and health issues that many people experience and we have WAAAAAY more control over aging than you may think. Regardless of your current age, you can start now to reverse the clock!

So I was delighted to get my hands on a new book by the editors of Good Housekeeping magazine entitled, 7 Years Younger: The Revolutionary 7 Week Anti-Aging Plan. Based on extensive product research conducted by the Good Housekeeping Research Institute on hundreds of volunteers, plus interviews with 100+ experts including dermatologists, brain scientists, stress reduction researchers, exercise experts, makeup artists, hairstylists, nutritionists, life coaches, and psychologists, the book delivers a practical anti-aging plan that you and your readers can start today.

The 7s

One of the things that drew me to this book was the number 7…7 years younger in 7 weeks by focusing on 7 areas of our lives.

The 7 focus areas are skin care, hair care, makeup, food nutrition, fitness, brain fitness, and emotional health. So it’s a very holistic, one of a kind program that focuses on more than just how you look on the outside but also how you feel on the inside.

7 years younger for me (at the time of this writing) would be perfect as I loved the way I looked and felt at the ripe young age of 27! So I was intrigued to know more about how I could essentially be 27 again. 🙂

The 7 Years Younger Program

“Follow this plan – it works!” says Dr. Mehmet Oz, Professor and Vice-chair of Surgery, NYP-Columbia Medical Center, and Host of The Dr. Oz Show.

I like that the program starts with you making a commitment and signing a pledge. It helps you think about what your goals and intentions are even before you get to chapter 1 so that you can be in the right frame of mind and ready to go!

Afterwards, get ready to turn back the clock! It kicks off with a 7 day Jumpstart plan offering some immediate gratification because sometimes it helps to see results quickly to stay motivated to keep going. Then you get into the 7-week revolutionary, holistic program with age reversing tips and tricks covering all 7 bases I described above. Oh and don’t worry. There’s nothing drastic involved and the program insists on making gradual changes so that you learn to make lifestyle changes, not just for the 7 weeks.

Think about this as your own personal makeover process without the huge expense of unnecessary external sources!

There are lots of other goodies included in this 391 page book including “Ask the Expert” Q&A (very helpful!), bonus tips in each chapter, research and investigation results of over the counter (OTC) products, schedules, success stories and much more.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book because I could point out things I was already doing well (like my facial and dental routine) to keep my youth and jotted things I could add (i.e. I learned several fitness and brain strategies to especially help my degrading memory!). It was such an easy read, very simple to follow, and included expert tips from people we already know and trust.

“What’s great about the program,” says Good Housekeeping editor in chief Rosemary Ellis, “is that you can treat it like a tool kit. You can pick and choose which elements of the program you want to focus on.”

Here’s just a sampling of the many stop-the-clock strategies for beauty, diet, fitness and health:

  • Take a few minutes each day to mentally savor the things you’re thankful for, and you’ll sleep better and longer each night. (pg 240)
  • Choose a hydrating or satin-finish liquid foundation, as hormone levels dip and your skin gets drier. (pg 70)
  • Shampoo less frequently to avoid hair dye color-fade. Refresh on your off days by spraying on a dry shampoo at the roots to soak up oil and restore volume. (pg 108)
  • Anti-wrinkle agents are easy to slip into your diet-fruits and vegetables are among the foods richest in antioxidants. (pg 127)
  • Herbs and spices like, rosemary, sage, parsley, cinnamon and cumin are loaded with polyphenols that help you look younger so sprinkle them on your food liberally and often. (pg 128)
  • Just 30 minutes of active sweeping, dusting, and vacuuming burns 99 calories.

  • This is a great post! I’ve always leaned towards the holistic approach in terms of my health, etc. My husband became a vegan earlier this year, so that has forced me to take a deeper look into the foods I was putting in my body and my children’s bodies. I’m not a vegan (yet) but I am eating way more healthy than I was at the beginning of the year. We started making our own smoothies and juicing, and as a result, I’ve lost 20 lbs this year (three kids later). Woot! Woot! 🙂

    • Lucky you Christine; you’re our winner! Here’s to looking 7 years younger! 🙂

  • Oooooh, sign me up! No, seriously, where do I sign? This book sounds amazing–thank you oodles for sharing it! And I love that there’s a pledge, there’s nothing like committing to your own wellness, right? Although living in this tiny village has helped me improve my life in a lot of ways, I find it easy to “forget” or neglect things like hair and make-up, which are so mega important to feel kick-ass, let’s face it. Here’s to looking and feeling 27 (28 in my case!) again 🙂 HOORAH!

    • Oopsies, forgot to give my tip! Doing a weekly facial mask to stay hydrated helps my skin look much younger! I’m also a huge juicer! I make sure to add loads of greens, ginger for circulation and more. Ooh, also, adding linseed oil to one meal a day (salad, yogurt in the a.m., etc.) Voila! 🙂

  • Laila (@OnlyLaila)

One thing I currently do is drink a lot of water. I have a water bottle that I keep at my desk at work and I keep a pitcher full at home. It gives me energy and helps flush out my system.

  • Woah! Who doesn’t want to look and feel like before??? The tips highlighted by you are worth noticing. Drinking water at regular intervals and a little power nap everyday helps to flourish your skin more. The ideal time for a nap is about 8 hours after you get up.

  • This book looks great! I definitely drink water to help keep myself looking youthful. I do know that I need to start wearing sunscreen daily, though!

  • When I think of staying young, I usually picture a workout routine and balanced diet. I never thought of brain fitness! Thanks for the link for more details on this overlooked area.

  • I hope that once I get into the routine of taking care of myself now, that when I get older I will be one of those healthy 90 year olds. This book is on my list of books to read! Thanks for sharing!

  • Enjoyed reading your stop-the-clock strategies for beauty, diet, fitness and health! Eating foods rich in antioxidants, exercising, moisturizing daily, and exfoliating once a week are few more tips which I would like to add as per my experience. Diet plays a very important role in making you look younger and brighter.

  • I have been working on my skin for so many years and finally after so much of consistency in my schedule of drinking water and clean-up once a week, I have achieved what I want. Looking 7 years younger is just like a dream come true for me. I got to read this book, it seems amazing and will be a great help to continue my daily regime. Thanks for the share!
