Michelle Shaeffer, co-creator of the Ultimate Blog Challenge which I’m participating in, suggested the topic of choosing a personal theme song as a blogging idea and I thought it was a good one to ponder.
So as I was messing around on the Internet yesterday (during a scheduled break from work of course
), I found a quiz where you answer a few questions about yourself and it spits out a personal theme song for you. I thought it would be pretty interesting to see what random song it would pull from its database for me.
Well, lo and behold, it picked a pretty good one!
“Chosen For Me” Theme Song
The quiz database chose “Beautiful Day” by U2. Now, I had never heard of it so of course I quickly opened up YouTube to see what U2 was spitting out.
Ahhhh, okay, I can work with this. I like the lyrics:
See the world in green and blue
See China right in front of you
See the canyons broken by cloud
See the tuna fleets clearing the sea out
See the Bedouin fires at night
See the oil fields at first light
And see the bird with a leaf in her mouth
After the flood all the colors came out
…
It was a beautiful day
Don’t let it get away
Beautiful day…
My REAL Personal Theme Song
Though the quiz chose a good one for me, I found myself thinking quite long and hard about what I would choose for myself. I started going through the hundreds of songs on my phone to see if something caught my eye quickly. “This could take forever,” I thought.
Then, the perfect theme song came to mind!
It’s a song that had to grow on me actually. It wasn’t my favorite at first. But now I could imagine this groovy, upbeat song playing when I enter a room, strutting a cool, sexy, model walk. One that would play as I get up and go about my day. It would follow me into the grocery store or work and announce my presence at people’s houses as I visit them
LOL
What is it, you ask?
“Golden” by Jill Scott
The lyrics are perfect for what I feel about myself, my life, my journey (as of this moment that is, as I’m sure throughout my life this will change)…
“…I’m taking my own freedom
Putting it in my song,
Singing loud and strong,
Grooving all day long,
I’m taking my freedom,
Putting it in my stroll,
I’ll be high-steppin’ y’all,
Letting the joy unfold…”
Honorable Mentions
Here are a couple other songs I would also choose. They can be the second and third tracks after Jill’s song finishes playing
“True to Myself” by Ziggy Marley

“It’s My Life” by Bon Jovi
Over to you…
Soooo, been thinking about yours? What would your personal theme song be and why? I’d love to hear your picks!

My songs are Climb Every Mountain from Sound of Music, You’ll Never Walk Alone from Carousel and The Impossible Dream from Man of La Mancha followed closely by Bonnie Tyler singing Tyre Tracks and Broken Hearts

Oooooh, good ones Roberta…thanks for sharing!
Oh, man! For a long time, my theme song was “Wonder” by Natalie Merchant. These days, I’d have to go with the song I walked down the aisle to, “She” by Elvis Costello. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O040xuq2FR0 Damn…I’m getting goosebumps just watching that video!

Ellie girl, “She” is nice! Thanks for adding the vid url so I can easily get to it
That’s a good song to walk down the aisle to. I like the lyrics!
Right now mine would be “Lord Help Me Jesus” by Kris Kristofferson or “One day at a time” by Christy Lane. God bless and best of luck in UBC.

Best of luck to you as well in UBC Dena! We’re almost at the end of October! How are doing? Have you been able to post daily? I had to scale back a bit since I’m managing 2 blogs. Only so much time in a day right?!
~Kesha
Doing a lot better than I thought…I only have 2 more to write. Being disabled, blogging really helps me fill the time.

Glad it helps to fill your time Dena. Do you have any goals after the challenge?
O.M.G When I read the title of this post, the song “Golden” popped up in my head immediately. I even blogged about this song earlier this year (my Valentine’s Day post). I can’t think of a better anthem to self love and empowerment. Great choice!

Great minds think alike Adriene! I commented over on your Valentine’s Day post as well
You are right – it’s a great anthem for self-love and empowerment!

Hello Uncommon Chick, Have you seriously given me yet something else to have to think about? Girl, you will be the death of me. I must give this some thought and get back to you. But I must say … a very fun idea and post. Those of us with something to sell should have an “elevator speech”. All of us should have a song. It makes it easier to sing.
Why oh why do I not get the link luv? I’m starting to feel abused here.

Aww, it’s all love for you here boo boo! I even changed my comment fields around so that Commentluv would pick up everyone’s links. I talked to Andy about it and he said that must have been the issue originally.
Your link showed up in your second post though.
You know I’m an advocate for No Abuse LOL
Great post and great songs, Kesha! The quiz didn’t work so great for me – not enough options for someone who’s married and is too emotional! My song came up as Back in Black by AC/DC – a little scary if you ask me! Haha! ~ Suerae

Yeah, AC/DC doesn’t sound like you at all!
The quiz is a bit janky but it was fun to play with. If you think of another song you like, let me know!
~Kesha
I am like Suerae, I got Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf. I love the song, but don’t know what I said that pulled that up. LoL. I find that my personal “theme” song seems to change from day to day or week to week. Right now I’m hanging out with Lady Gaga’s “Hair.”

Ahh, “Hair” is pretty catchy. I like Ms. LG
Yeah, the quiz is pretty limited in the songs in its database apparently so I really had to think about songs I know instead.
btw: based on your blog’s tagline, “Born to be Wild” sounds like a good fit
~Kesha
Hmmm give me a day or two and I’ll figure out mine! Love this challenge though.
Hey Sarah, have you gotten a chance to come up with a good theme song? The only problem is there are so many good songs that it can be hard to decide!
The one that keeps coming to mind as an overall theme song is Aretha Franklin’s “I Will Survive” I think I could have a daily theme song though. Today’s might be “Pressing On” by Reliant K as I’ve got a LOT of work to do:)
okay my friend I kept trying different answers to get a song i wanted and what i wanted was “Beautiful Day” but alas I kept getting “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf. “Beautiful Day” was my motivation when out pounding the pavements, but I don’t do that any more. My theme song should be “I am woman” by Helen Reddy. Now that has just given you a clue to my age. Damn!!!!

It’s all good Christine…”age ain’t nothing but a number” right?! Yeah, that little quiz must be short on songs in its database. I, too, tried different answers to see what other songs it would come up with but it looks like it only has 3
It’s always been the hymn “It is well”

I had to look that one up as I didn’t recognize it by the title…now I know what you’re talking about
Mary Mary has a version of this hymn on their newest cd that is very nice!
Cool! I’ll have to check it out. Why was I at practice for a play I’m in tonight and the one girl started singing this song.
I thought of this blog post.

Great post. Thanks for sharing all those choices. I am the Bon Jovi song for sure. It is my Life!!!!!
It’s My Life is such a great song, isn’t it! There are soooo many good choices out there though that it’s hard to choose…which is why I have several. Throughout life, our choices change but thank goodness for musical geniuses who give us great songs to choose from
A personal theme song? Wow–so many to choose from!! If I had to pick one, it would be the song, “Life” by Beckah Shae. It’s also a great song to get moving to in the mornings! I love all of your choices too–all of those are perfect for theme songs!

I’m loving this post Kesha!
Mine would be, Miley Cyrus’s “The Climb”! The reason is probably because I kind of recorded myself singing it and made it my ringtone. :8 LOL I just really love the words of that song. If not that one, Fantasia’s “I Believe”.

I had to take the quiz you took. The results: Born to Be Wild by Steppenwolf. My first reaction was no way. But after listening to the song again and reading the lyrics absolutely! “Take the world in a love embrace!” That was too much fun. Thank you!
