One of my favorite pieces of clothing is a black pair of leggings – black because it’s supposed to be slimming and leggings because they flatter (almost) all bodies:-)
Now that’s it’s fall, I know people will be wearing leggings more often – with tunics, long shirts, sweaters, dressing them up with heels and dressing down with flats and boots. So much fun can be had with leggings!
But I’ve seen some people wear leggings in such a way that makes me cringe. Women are wearing them in place of sweat pants or even regular pants it seems and are looking a HAWT MESS! So I thought I’d share the article below by Sarah Zammit with you to understand how NOT to wear leggings and look fly in your gear
Enjoy!
Leggings Are Cool
Leggings have come back into style with a vengeance over the past couple of years. I remember looking at pictures of celebrities (and my mom!) in the 80s, sporting tight leggings and I never really got what the fascination was all about. I actually thought they were quite hideous.
Until a couple of years back, when leggings were coming back into fashion and I started noticing they actually look good on people, when worn well. Then I tried a pair on myself, and ever since I have thought leggings to be the most comfortable item of clothing ever. Forget the so-called comfy denim jeans, leggings I think are so much better. They are light, comfortable, give you enough support where you need it, and most of all leave no button or pocket bulges showing through: everything is smooth as it should be (or better, as much as it can be!).
Although leggings are very comfortable, and can look very fashionable when paired up with the right items of clothing and accessories, they can also look horribly wrong and most of all unflattering, if worn in the wrong way. Let me explain how I think leggings should not be worn, and why.
Do Not Wear Them As Regular Trousers
Ok, I believe this might confuse some of you out there, because in essence leggings are a different type of ‘trousers’ like jeans and capris are for instance. What I mean is that you cannot treat leggings as regular trousers. Since leggings are obviously very tight and, so they tend to show all your bulges, hug tightly to your bottom, and more often than not they tend to gather between your legs when you are standing up straight, giving you the infamous (and unflattering) ‘camel-toe’ effect.
Now although these are elements of leggings you definitely do not want to display, it does not mean you should not wear leggings altogether. What it means is that you should not wear leggings with low waist shirts or tops. Any tops that hit right at the waistline, and which would have otherwise looked great with a pair of jeans, cannot be worn with leggings!
Leggings are meant to be worn with longer tops, oftentimes referred to as tunic tops. This ensures that all those unsightly bulges, are covered up (now if you don’t have any bulges, consider yourself lucky and carry on!). The tunic top also helps to give a flattering silhouette to your overall look, and puts emphasis on showing off your legs, which is exactly what leggings should so.
To further enhance your look I suggest wearing leggings with at least a slight kitten heel, this puts emphasis on your ankle, elongating your leg, to give you a slimmer look. Of course if you are wearing your leggings in the winter time, you can definitely wear them with heeled boots. Definitely a sexy look!
So, the one thing you have to promise to yourself (and to me!) that you will never, ever do, is wear leggings are regular trousers. This will ensure you always look great and stylish in your leggings!

Girl, you know you see people out there looking crazy in those leggings!
Next time I see somebody out like this, I’m gonna send them to this post!
Oh and while I’m at it, I’m gonna send their so-called friends here too because evidently they thought it was okay for their girl to be out like that LOL
I am afraid of leggings. That is all.
But I must say that I have seen plenty of folks wearing them as pants–especially teens and younger girls. I really wish that everyone would get that they are indeed not pants! Thanks for posting!

Giiirrrrlll, tell me about it. These young folks have me laughing! Don’t be afraid of them though. Just pair it with a nice long shirt or sweater and even a belt and boots and you’ll be good.
I bought my first pair a few weeks ago and wore them with a sweater dress and boots this weekend. I said dress, not shirt. lol. I thought I was cute. But yeah, they are not pants and I would never wear them without covering my behind.
See some people can get away with it but very few I think, especially when most look like those pics above in the post!! I had on some this past weekend myself and had a shirt/sweater that came at least halfway over the butt and I must say I didn’t look bad
Stopping by from #blogboost … and OMG! I could not help but literally LOL … it is crazy the way some peeps wear leggings/jeggings … TUNICS PLEASE! If your shirt does not cover your butt you should not be wearing leggings!!!!
Thanks for stopping by Vicki! Glad you got in a good hearty laugh tonight
I need to get you a megaphone so people will hear you with that last statement LOL

I just bought this really cute dress. Charcoal color with a lower square neckline and 2 cute pockets at the bottom. Its a little short to wear by its self, so I was going to wear leggins with it. What color should I wear?
I am sorry, but if you have a saggy booty, it’s not appropriate. Sometimes I think women just don’t care, but I won’t wear anything that I know dam well I shouldn’t be wearing. Some women are a trip and the pictures shown above is evident. Leggings for us women with meat? I will have to see that. If they create something flattering to our shape, I can deal with that.

Girrrrrlll, you know we see this mess all the time! And I want to take pics but then I just feel bad for these women who think they’re cute or something LOL
I just saw a chick today who looked extremely horrible in some leggings and she had the nerve to wear a short shirt…woooooow! It went way beyond a saggy bootie girl! SMH!!!
Not every style is for everyone. I don’t think size precludes someone from wearing leggings, but I do think appropriateness is. If you wear it in the gym with a tank, great, but if you wear it outside of the gym where it is accepted, just make it appropriate for that environment. Showing too much of your form out in the streets is to me the same as being naked unlike in the gym where the view of form is entirely appropriate. Appropriateness is all I can say.
