I’m a Savvy Auntie and I get a day to celebrate!!!
I recently ran across a website called SavvyAuntie.com and couldn’t believe my eyes. There’s a whole community for aunties? Yes, it is and it’s actually the fist and only community for aunties. Let me check them out, I thought.
As I’m an auntie to a beautiful 13 year old niece and handsome 15 year old nephew (collectively and lovingly called the Boo Boos!), I figured this would be a great place to share with other aunties around the globe and enjoy tools designed uniquely for us aunties.
What I like about what the Founder, Melanie Notkin, has created is that the term “auntie” can mean many different things.
Auntie: Aunties by Relation (ABR), Aunties by Choice (ABC), Great-Aunts, Godmothers, and all women who love kids.
Her vision for the site captures its essence:
…this site is meant for all you ladies who are totally mad for your nieces or nephews, friends’ kids, whatever…
And I AM totally mad for my Boo Boos!
Since I’ve made the decision to not have children, I have chosen to play the auntie role as if the Boo Boos were my own kids. SavvyAuntie.com even has a segment for Professional Aunts with No Kids, like myself, lovingly called PANK.
And because the Boo Boos’ mother passed a few years ago, I take my Auntie role even more seriously. I am glad that I can be a female role model in their lives, someone they can come to if/when they feel they need a female perspective, someone they can trust to give them insightful feedback, and to love them unconditionally.
In a society where marketers mainly focus on parents, mostly moms, I didn’t quite fit into that category. But now with SavvyAuntie.com, I have something I feel I can belong to that allows me to continue what I do best, being one of the best Aunties in the world, while having the support and tools available for me to do even better!
Celebrating Auntie’s Day!
I’m glad that I’ve joined the Savvy Auntie community (joining is free by the way) and am even more ecstatic that my Boo Boos consider this an appropriate and deserving title for me as well!
In celebration of this day, one that the Boo Boos first thought I was making up LOL, we have decided to hang out, play some games, go to dinner, and just do what we do best when we’re together – HAVE FUN!

one of the best things of being an auntie, is that when you’re tired at the end of all the fun activities.. you can send them home to Mama : )

I love it! Me and a friend of mine always have Auntie conversations. Both of us have decided against the kid thing. Especially because of the no husband thing. Lol. But we have been saying there should be an Auntie day. I love my Nieces & nephews. I have a ton of them. I will go sign-up. Thanks!
